Today's challenge is:
Wash clothes more efficiently
As the second largest water user in your home, the average washing machine uses about 41 gallons of water per load. The average American family does about 400 loads of laundry every year. That's 16,400 gallons of water!
There are a few ways to wash your clothes more efficantly. By using less water and cooler water, you can cut a load's energy use in half. the warm or cold water setting on washing machine will clean your clothes well as the hot.
If you are in need of a new washing machine, or willing to invest in one, consider one that is more energy efficant.
According to energystar.gov " A full-sized ENERGY STAR certified clothes washer uses 15 gallons of water per load." and "On average, a new ENERGY STAR certified clothes washer uses 270 KWh of electricity and costs $85 to run, each year."
To save even more energy and money, dry your clothes on a clothesline whenever possible.
