Welcome to the first day of Energy Week!
Flipping a switch off when you leave a room is the easiest way to start saving energy!
Today’s challenge is:
Turn Off Lights When You Leave a Room
Happy Living Magazine says, “By turning lights off, you could save 10 to 20 percent of your total household electricity usage.”
The amount of energy that you are wasting depends on the watt of your light bulb. So, for instance, a 60-watt bulb requires 0.06 kilowatts of electricity per hour. So if you are out of the room for 4 hours and you leave the lights on, you are wasting a lot of energy and money.
Some examples to help you save energy are:
-Purchase and install a dimmer switch. (You don’t have to turn off the lights all the way to save energy either, by using a dimmer switch you are turning down the light so you are saving energy and money.)
-Use energy saving light bulbs. (So less energy and money.)
-Use natural light during the day. (Then you don’t need to have the lights on. So less energy and less money.)
