Today’s challenge is:
Start using reusable containers for leftovers
Try this instead of using plastic bags that you throw away.
A box of 100 Ziplock bags at Walmart costs roughly $2.98. So by using reusable containers it will not only save you money but it will also bring our plastic pollution rate down.
According to Takepart.com, Approximately 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States every year. That’s more than 1,200 bags per US resident, per year.
Here are some parts of a Takepart.com article on plastic grocery bags as well:
“One of the most serious threats to our oceans is plastics pollution. Plastic constitutes approximately 90% of all trash floating on the ocean’s surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile.”
also,
“The North Pacific Gyre off the coast of California is home to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the largest ocean garbage site in the world. The floating mass of plastic is twice the size of Texas, with plastic pieces outnumbering sea life by a measure of 6 to 1.”
and,
“It takes 500-1000 years for plastic to degrade.”
